West Seneca Marching Band to compete at Carrier Dome

The West Seneca Marching Band will travel to Syracuse Sunday, Oct. 27 to compete in the 46th New York State Field Band Conference championship show at the Carrier Dome.

This championship competition will bring together over 50 high school marching bands from throughout the northeastern United States. The New York State Field Band Conference Championship show is the culmination of an eight week season which features over 60 bands in 34 regional competitions throughout the state. Band members, directors, staff members and boosters from each of the competing schools will have spent countless hours preparing for this prestigious event.  

Bands are divided into six different classifications based on school size and past competitive experience.

Each band in the championship show will perform a musical and visual show lasting about 10 minutes for a panel of 10 judges. The judges will score and rank each band within its class. Each band will receive a plaque and the highest scoring New York State band in each class will take home the coveted Governor’s Cup. Last year’s champions included Arlington, Malverne, Jamestown, Mineola, Rome Free Academy and Jordan-Elbridge.

The bands in the championship show will represent nearly every region of the state along with two bands from Pennsylvania and one from New Jersey. 

The championship show will start at 8 a.m. with marching bands in the Large School 3 Class. This class will include performances by Suffern, Copiague, Lindenhurst, Hicksville, East Ramapo, Greece, Auburn, Hilton and Sachem. 

At about 10 a.m. will be the bands in the Large School 3 Class which includes West Seneca, Huntington, Kingston, Rome Free Academy, Corning-Painted Post, Orchard Park, Webster and Horseheads.

At about 12:45 p.m. the bands in the Small School Class 3 will compete. This class will include performances by Indian River, Nyack, Marcus Whitman, Midland Park, New Jersey, Floral Park, Norwich, Jordan-Elbridge, Falconer-Frewsburg, LeRoy and Pioneer. 

Bands from the Small School 2 Class will take the field for competition at about 3 p.m. Included in this class will be bands from Northwestern, PA, Mineola, Union-Endicott, Johnson City, Vestal, Phoenix, Division Avenue, Roslyn and Westmoreland.

Starting at about 6 p.m. will be the following bands in the Small School 1 Class, including Mohonasen, Malverne, Central Square, East Irondequoit, New Hartford, Medina, East Syracuse Minoa and Oswego. 

The National Class competition will begin at about 8:15 p.m. and will feature Liverpool, Cicero-North Syracuse, Baldwinsville, West Genesee, Jamestown, Victor, Lancaster, Arlington and Brentwood. 

During the day there will also be exhibition performances by the University of Buffalo Thunder of The East Marching Band as well as the Syracuse University Marching Band.

Tickets for the New York State Field Band Conference Championships may be purchased on the day of the event at the Carrier Dome ticket booths. The admission price for adults is $19 and for students and seniors the price is $13.

The tickets are good for the entire day of the competition.
